Dying To Leave

Verse 1
Jamie worked at the hospital pushing a linen cart
A quiet boy who kept to himself for the most part
But all that he didn’t say was written on his face
It wasn’t hard to see that he was dying to leave this place

Chorus
There was a voice inside I never heard
Louder than you would believe
A silent stream of unspoken words
That said, “I am dying to leave”

Verse 2
I heard he never knew his dad but kept a picture out of sight
His mom had more than one boyfriend who kept her out all night
One day he borrowed some money then left without a trace
I never knew how much he was dying to leave this place

Verse 3
We all wondered what happened when he
Didn’t show up to work for days
Till we heard they found him with a gun
By the wash where the children played
I never knew Jamie well but I can still see his face
Though he was only seventeen and dying to leave this place
