Late Rain

Verse 1
I thought I saw some clouds this morning
When I looked up at the sky
My heart has been like a plowed field
That’s been left hard and dry
But soon there will be relief
Across this great plain
And all will be different when
Comes the late rain

Refrain
Late rain
We shall not wait in vain
Late rain
Comes the late rain

Verse 2
Ray’s dad lives in a trailer now
Down by the railroad tracks
It’s hard to keep a family
With a monkey on your back
His promises come and go
Like that passing freight train
But all will be different when
Comes the late rain

Verse 3
Bob lost his wife a few months ago
After fifty-seven years
He asked me, “Why do people think
When you’re old you have less tears?
I wonder how long I’ll live
In this state of pain”
But all will be different when
Comes the late rain
